Hi
The crimp tool is devilishly expensive so unless you are crimping thousands of pins solder is the better bet. You can also change them easily without ejecting the pins. Tools are available from EDAC or Varelco suppliers. Crimp tools around 200 pounds in the UK.

Hi Matt,
Thanks for your reply. I haven't looked inside to see if they're
crimped or soldered. Is one easier or better than another? Any idea
where I can get the crimper or ejector tool if I need one?

Thanks again,
Dave

Hi Dave
EDACs have 3 possible pin types.
One is for circuit board mounting, which you won't have.
Then there is a crimp type which needs the correct tool to make
connections.
Lastly there is solder type which you obviously solder.
You can get a pin ejector tool which you can release the gold pins
>from
the housing if you need to 'reallocate' a few connections. The
ejector will release all 3 types of pin. In desperation you can get the pins out using a very fine jewellers screwdriver as the pins have a 'barb' on one side which lock into the

plastic moulding.

Thanks again Ike,
I've got an edac snake for the master section. The snake is
labled
like this:

Cue 1 & 2 In L-R
Cue A-B In L-R
Studio Mon In L-R
Control Room Monitor A In L-R Control Room Monitor B In L-R
Control Room Monitor C In L-R
2 Trk 1 In/Out 1-2 (XLR)
2 Trk 2 In/Out 1-2 (XLR)
2 Trk 3 In/Out 1-2 (XLR)
2 Trk 4 In/Out 1-2 (XLR)
Reverb 1-4 (not sure what these are for)

There are snakes for Pro Tools that I'll have to re-terminate for
my
Alesis HD24's. I'm going old school for the time being - no
computer!
I've never used edac connectors before. Is there a tool for making
the connections inside them?

Thanks again,
Dave

Anytime! Feel free to ask whatever you want, whenever you need to.
There's usually somebody available with an answer.
Did your console come with cabling/edac connectors?
Connector 1 is usually all of the I/O for the master section
Including the monitors.

Thanks Ike & KB. The Elite is going to be a whole new experience
for
me. I honestly know very little about it and most of my learning
is
going to be from hands on experience. I've never had a board
where
I
couldn't just plug everything in the back. Hopefully I can figure
out
the cabeling for my speakers. That'll be the next step. I'll
probably
show up here from time to time for a bit of help. I'll try not to
bug
you guys too much!

Thanks again for getting me started!

HI David,
Welcome to the list and congratulations on the Elite. They're
great
consoles...I love em'.
Power supply business:
1st up, you double up the connections from the power supply at
the
console end, hence the difference in the number of terminals.
Connections:
-18v = -Analog power, color code: Blue and blue/black
+18v = + Analog power, cc: Red and Red/black
Bipolar Ground = Analog Phantom Ground, cc: Black, Black/White
_AND_
White/Black (3 wires). The white/black lead is the +48v Ground
at
the
PS-3 end.
+48v = Phantom Power, cc: White
+36v = Meter Power, cc: Orange
Meter Ground = Meter Ground, cc: Orange/Black
-25v = Logic Power, cc: Green
Logic Ground = Logic Ground, cc: Green/black
That's it. Take your time, double check your connections and
then
check them again...and then power it up.
Best regards,
Ike

Greetings to all! I picked up a 1993 Elite. I've made the jump
from
a
Mackie. I've never had a board like this and I'm needing some
help
with the power supply connections. Sorry for the freshman
question,
but I'm trying to get this thing up and running without any
help.
The
12 terminals on the rear of the supply are connected to the
power
supply cable, but there are only 8 terminals on the board. I'm
not
sure which wires connect to which terminals. There are lables
on
the
terminals of both the supply and the board, but they are not
all
the
same. How can I determine which connections to make? Here are
the
12
terminals on the rear of the supply, and the 8 terminals on the
board:
Supply:
1. -18V
2. -18V
3. Bipolar Ground
4. Bipolar Ground
5. +18V
6. +18V
7. +48V
8. Phantom Ground
9. +35V
10. Meter Ground
11. -25V
12. Logic Ground

Board:
1. - analog power
2. + analog power
3. Analog Phantom Ground
4. Phantom Power
5. Logic Ground
6. Logic Power
7. Meter Ground
8. Meter Power
