Hi
A SSL4000 channel strip has about 23 switches involved in the path from mic in to the stereo bus. ALL of them have to be pristine for decent quality and reliable signal. The main 'downer' on those desks is that many of the switches are involved in things like 'EQ to dynamics sidechain' stuff you hardly ever use but ALL must be exercised regularly. The relative simplicity of the Neoteks have a certain attraction at this point!
Happy button pressing.

 Hi David,
For starters, try "exercising" all of the switches on each channel. Just because a switch is "off" or dis-engaged, doesn't mean it is out-of-circuit. In fact, the signal flows through the switch anyway, just through the contacts that are used in the "up" position. Beware the switch you never use!

So I've gotten to the point where I'm checking out each of the 40
channels in my Elite. I've got 3 channels that are passing only high
end signal. All channel strip functions are off, so it's got nothing
to do with the EQ. Any ideas or suggestions? I've never pulled a
channel strip out of this console yet. Is there anything I should
watch out for when pulling it? I also have one fader that doesn't
gradually increase in volume. It starts with silence then immediately
comes on at volume through the range of the fader. Is this a fixable
problem or is the fader shot?

thanks,
Dave
