Hi, I am clearly new
with NESSUS and network security. My question is
the following: I have a little
private network at home which is connected to the internet via a LINUX server
(RH7.2), I use masquerading to forward in / out traffic from my internal network
to the internet. The server is
connected to the Internet via PPP (DSL connection) - I have configured a
firewall based on IPTables Now my question
is the following: How can I test
the security of my network as if I was a black hat from the OUTSIDE (make sure
that people from the internet cannot infiltrate it or simply crash my server
and the internal network) using Nessus. I would like to
do it as if I was someone from the outside - However I have installed NESSUS on
the server machine which runs the firewall - As far as I understand Nessus
cannot operate properly in this environment. So, what is the
recommended approach for the tests I want to do? Do I understand
that I should find a second connection to the Internet and then from there run
Nessus on a box running none firewall? Thanks for your
answers. J- |
