Nessus detects and identifies services that are
running on non-standard ports even if the non-standard
port is a reserved port.

Once a service has been recognised, Nessus does not
perform a "best guess" but considers that the 
probability of a given service running on a given port
is equal for all ports. 

It uses the info in the KB, that is filled by nmap to
run the tests.
