There is a problem with the Windows version of Nessus such that you must
explicitly enable plugin #12288 ("Global variable settings") if a plugin
tries to make use of any of those settings. That was preventing me
from running #25956, which was testing for versions before 5.35 provided
report paranoia was set to Paranoid. I'm not clear if that should impact
detection in general, though.

No, the 7 day delay only involves the release of new plugins. Once a
plugin is included in the registered feed, you'll see updates to it as
soon as those with direct feeds do.
