I think that, like it or not, the introduction of this config file *has* effectively defined an API for the table_container helper. I'd need to look back through the list archives to check whether I pointed this out to you explicitly at the time or not. Probably not :-( Sorry. Maybe my mistake was in regarding this as a (user-visible) helper rather than an (internal) handler. But whether that was the original intention or not, it's water under the bridge now. This config has been available for some time now, and people may well be using it. We need to bear that in mind when deciding how to move forward.
