I would like to compile net-snmp on a windows platform.
I have played with the open-source environment cygwin, but would like to
go native!

I am a *NIX programmer. I do not have a clue what is involved in
microsoft development. (OK, I have a clue, but it was a couple years ago
playing with OMNIS Studio before XP came out).

I am looking into purchasing MS Visual "something". From the net-snmp
docs, I went looking for Visual C++.
I went to the MS product site and found the free Visual C++ 2005 Express
Edition.

Would this be able to compile a working net-snmp?
I will be developing some code (net-snmp subagents, maybe other apps),
but I see no need for integration with MS applications like Word, Excel,
etc.
Building simple GUI's would be nice, but I would probably not need this.
More likely would be an MS app that uses TCP to communicate with a *NIX box.
My target platforms will be MS Windows 2000 and MS Servers.
It does not mention cross-compiling... Do I have to buy the Visual C++
or Visual Studio for this?

I apologize if this is off topic, but my goal is net-snmp on windows,
with the ability to re-configure net-snmp and build sub-agents.

Thanks,
Dan
