No objections... any suggestions for a better name than 'data_access'? Maybe
something shorter, like

  napi(s) (Netsnmp Abstract/Application Interface(S))
  asi(s) (Abstract System Interface(S))
  shal (Software/Hardware Application Layer)
  hash (Hardware And Software Helper)
dfd (Data For Dummies ;-) ... it's a joke! laugh!)
  dal (Data Access Layer)
aa (Abstractions Anonymous. Of course, we'd need exactly 12 subdirs.)
