That's a bit vague.
A more precise error message would be useful :-)
But it may well be that the patch that's attached to this
tracker item is aimed at 5.4.x and/or the main trunk code.
If there's a minor difference in the 5.3.x context, then this
could confuse the "patch" command.

I haven't really looked at the patch properly, but it should be simple enough
to apply manually if necessary. It seems to be one basic change
(splitting CONTAINER_INSERT into two routines), repeated in two
locations (snmplib/container.c and include/library/container.h)
