I agree on this part as well, and admit that I am at a loss for what to call
the flag. Ideas appreciated here. (by the way, enable-minimalist-including-wants
is confusing as it excludes, rather than includes, the wants)

Yes - the default value should be true. Do not change anything if it is
avoidable.

Yep :-)

I have a preliminary patch, but not here. The testsuite fails rather
spectacularly as one thing that end up beeing removed is the logging
functionality. I think I have to add a few more SKIPIF's there.
