All your examples looked ok, and there have been some bug fixes since 5.0.6.

Unfortunately, none of us have FreeBSD 3.2 installed for testing. There has
been some recent activity and fixes for FreeBSD 4.9 and 5.0, though, so it
might. It would be very helpful if you could try the 5.1.2.pre2 pre-release and
let us know how it goes!

If nothing else, try the V5-0-patches branch, to get all the fixes for the
5.0.x line. If you can't use cvs, then at least move up to 5.0.9, though you'll
still need a patch to fix the valid_columns stuff.
