I do not necessarily expect changes to the code of ./configure, instead believing the greatest benefit would derive from the creation of applicable documentation. It was not easy to port Net-SNMP to Kenati linux, though it seems that I am most of the way there, thanks to the help of a number of people, most of whom work for the same firm that has sought my help with Net-SNMP. I will take time to seek information from the developers of the configuration tools, so as to minimise the burden on the core developers. Still, details on the porting process need to be elucidated, and I will not cease from this effort. As time and knowledge permit, I will prepare some documentation for the porting process, with the goal of making Net-SNMP a better tool.
The greatest difficulty I faced seemed to be not knowing what to do. It is all well and good to try a few things, get stuck, have some epiphany, try something else, get stuck again, repeat ad nausium. Better would be a guide to the porting process, with anecdotes from those who have tried before, and perhaps some suggestions on how to solve problems with the process. Many interesting problems were encountered in the port, and these are sure to be of interest to other users. Hence, I have now started generating the documentation regarding my experience. I just hope that some others who have ported will pony-up with their experience, so that the content of the documentation is broadly based. William R.
