I am working with some AIX 5.2 boxes that have Ibm's
snmpd and supposedly a hostmib daemon that should
provide some cpu memory and disk, but I can't get that
to work. In 4.x I had compiled a version of netsnmp
that I used to act as proxy to fork my own shell
scripts to provide cpu/mem and disk (via exec in
snmpd.conf). Now I have been asked to try and do the
same thing, but leave Ibm's snmpd running. Does anyone
know if it is possible to run netsnmp snmpd as a SMUX
peer to the native snmp agent ? I read about SMUX and
I understand it a bit, but can't reconcile the need to
run netsnmpd on a different port so that it won't
clash with the native snmpd (ie how does SMUX know
what port netsnmp is running on). Is this possbile
(running netsnmp as a smux peer) ?

Could I alternatively run the native snmpd on another
port and have it as a registered child to netsnmp ? I
am not sure I could do this since some RS6000's do
some funky hardware things with the native snmp agent.

Does anyone have a netsnmp binary for AIX, I have had
GREAT difficulty compiling it on 5.2 ?

Thanks
C Wells

PS I only need netsnmp to provide IF stats and fork my
exec scripts in snmpd.conf
