It is deprecated, not obsolete. You are confusing these two terms (and

Or, more likely, this functionality works on some machines and not on
others, and is not being fixed because it is a deprecated object.

You should use the replacement monitoring strategy if possible. If
not, the deprecated object may be able to provide what you need. If neither
works, you should complain about the non-deprecated object.
