The code for calculating the average values is based on exactly the same underlying data as that for the raw counters. The problem with the older code is that on some operating systems it was a 1-minute average, and on other operating systems, it was a lifetime average. For the same code. The re-write (consolidating on a 1-minute average for *all* O/S's) came in with the 5.4.x line.
