If you need to have your own MIB, you need to branch it to the .iso.org.dod.internet.private.enterprise (1.3.6.1.4.1) For example, IBM is adding its stuff under 1.3.6.1.4.1.2 and below that point they can do whatever they want without asking anyone else. Here are the current enterprises numbers assigned by IANA: http://www.iana.org/assignments/enterprise-numbers This is required for you own MIB, however, if you just add something to an existing MIB complying with the definition of the values by the IANA authority, you don't need you own.
