Hi all, Just thought I'd share with you some of the material that I have been rereading and delving into while on holiday. I have not read them all, some are research material for some writing I am currently doing for an aticle called 'KRIEGSPIEL, RSG, Class Wargames and notes on Situationism'.
Basically, the article is about games, mainly 'game of War' by Debord, and the 2 new versions by Class Wargames & RSG (Alex galloway), Situationism and their relationship with capitalism in their own time, and our own relatonship with neo-liberalism in our own times, plus other stuff. How we as artists or anti-artists can some how, share and find value today that is not falling into the trappings of a mediated, all consuming world - into its frameworks, passifying our potential to create 'real' agency and (dare I say) 'authenticity'... "The world (more than ever now) needs a kind of art related experience, to challenge in whatever form - the neo-liberalist agenda which has ruthlessly, dominated and diminished our humane sense of worth, for over thirty years. In order to move forward, discover other ways out of the suffocation of corrupt, mechanistic environments which dominate us all; with imposed bottom line, mentalities, driven by monetary values alone. Artists, anti-artists, cultural activists and peer collaborators, need to be brave enough to break away from the socially designed, given notion of the 'romantic' artist; and decide whether they are willing to relinquish whimsical aspirations for fame." m.garrett. It is still being written, but if anyone has any ideas of groups/individuals out there who they feel are in their own way asking similar questions. I would be interested to hear about them. Also, other reading material which you feel is important... much thanks. marc my current book list for this article: The Electronic Disturbance (Paperback) by Critical Arts Ensemble. 1994.
