Hi Constant (and all)
just briefly -
all my work (except where commissioned, collaborative and hence partially out
of my control) is freely available for any use whatsoever. Some of it is
formally licensed ( my stuff on Flickr is CC simply because it's that or "all
rights reserved" , a phrase that sends a chill through me).
Most of my work is implicity under a DWTFYWWI license ( 'Do What The Fuck You
Want With It', yes it exists...
http://info-max.hu/chriscc/dwtfywwi.txt )
My recent piece at the Harris Museum in Preston (in a show to do with the
acquisition of digital art) is available from the museum website as a free
download.
Why?
Because human beings are irredeemably social and *any* cultural activity is
built upon and in dialogue with, the work of others - no exceptions - if there
were, like Wittgenstein's lion, we wouldn't be able to understand them. We need
more acknowledgement of this (1) because it's true and (2) because it situates
art making in opposition to the market.
I have a particularly violent reaction -it makes me want to throw up - to the
phrase "intellectual property" which must be one of the nastiest and most mean
spirited concepts ever.
This could be more nuanced but I'm up early in the morning and I need to sleep
- hope it's of use :)
cheers
michael
