The event is a hack day. This is an application of hacking in the sense of clever and playful investigation and modification of resources. The resulting products are called hacks, which in this case means "a clever product of the application of hacking" in the sense just given. There are other meanings for hacking (cracking) and hacks (bodges) and plenty of criticisms of the hack day idea (some of which are less overheated than others) but I believe these are the ones at play here. There's a cultural cachet to hacking at the moment. I think it's seen as a means of pulling value from thin air for management in an example of Jemima Puddleduck economics. But hopefully some of its original transgressive spirit survives in these events and their products. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQEcBAEBCgAGBQJToJaGAAoJECciMUAZd2dZmYYH/jt/eU8o6SWwohKuJafZxnp8 /R5IA3vvtTkBrBG4IMoq2DlKkqoOTXyAQBEh+5KYnbIHeNADc5S3tKyQAftsu5lJ 9FafeCNLE/nvix/HK7o3sj1ok3Z9rBWs95NcJ4lnRLqCSTMeRS3Fy+VVKiSPGk5n 9CL5lbNsj0haeQVJ7DVuM/jMDxg9sfAE2xVwEAskXbqa2rCx135y5FvyfR9cxUC+ WiOPl7dwekFjC4kxH/KXLC/6zy5XNwQMhyYXUJ7WEuE6vfSJ78MBgzJ6pVOsnzti YddyLNvNI+HPpExtyPLB0Ur2x/0Ygss6bCdBch03RmDCwkgRIdKswh9Fu8s60Mk= =xInS -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- _______________________________________________ NetBehaviour mailing list [email protected] http://www.netbehaviour.org/mailman/listinfo/netbehaviour
