Maturana wrote somewhere that language is the "mutual orienting of cognitive domains" - in other words, the idea or concept is of secondary importance and itself (I'm putting my own thinking here) mutilated, but as long as people agree that the transmission has occurred, the gift, and that it satisfies both of them, everything is smoothly processed. People are remarkably insulated, idiolectical; we all have our privacies and subterranean traits; to call somthing "rational" to me implies otherwise, and is thereby skewed, but you and I can use the word "rational" and feel that we're understanding each other - what we're doing is orienting ourselves to the word as a sed or Barthian punctum, and agreeing we comprehend similar meanings, but... of course, but...

The things people find rational do not seem to have any consistency or
cohesion. However, ideas take their form as action. If you were to
convince someone to do something, then the idea traveled from you, to

themselves, they are reviewing their memories, consulting them for
advice, trying to become convinced.

Convincing someone of an idea is not a purely cognitive process. The
brain is a part of the body, and it is the full body which makes the
choice to act. I do not believe analytical philosophers would agree.
To make rationality a partly biological process, undermines the purity
of abstracts like mathematics.

Yet to think of rationality in a post-Edward Bernays world where
persuasion produces substantial material changes, we should look at
things that do convince people. And as it turns out, looking at what
convinces people on a global scale has less to do with logic and more
to do with identity. Written language is great for law and
mathematics, but images convey more meaning to humans - they are more
likely to convince.

I like this approach because it still keeps a difference between
rationality and action. Action applies to the material, involves
politics, and is more what Virilio speaks to.

century w/ all those anomalies. I haven't seen logic used otherwise,

in Quine on quotations, I don't know; in any case the Aristotelian stuff

talk about the logic of a computer program and even its surface layers
(upper layers of protocol suites where pretty much anything and anyone

go), and that gives an insight into what might be thought of as a dark
