It enables the ppp driver to detect the end of each data frame without
having to search for it. Disabling EOF mode significantly increases
CPU usage and slows down transfers. I'm pretty sure the original
serial.device *did* support EOF mode. Most decent serial drivers do,
Multiface, IOExtender etc. It's easy to tell if your driver supports
EOF mode, if it doesn't your connection won't work when it's enabled
in Genesis.
The IOBlix used to support it but in the tradition of IOBlix software
updates it no longer works. <sigh>
