Yea, its a feature of the stack that works just the same way as your
IP DNServers. The Internet works by IP numbers rather than names
so the conversion to XX.XX.XX.XX is first thing to happen when a
connection is to be made. A search is made locally first (not always)
before DNS lookup and if found uses that number. That means you
can redirect to wherever you want. *This is the only security risk I
can think of. Say if you want to collect e-mail and there is an entry
locally for "193.237.123.123 post.u-net.net" you will be sending
your password to somebody other than your mail server.* The
chances would be very rare and somebody would need to have
physical access to your machine. On something of the same, Its
always best to connect via a name rather than a number. I have
heard an ICQ IP number that pointed to a netcom dialup.

Other than editing the file by hand, you could use Genesisprefs under
Database/Hosts and add your entrys there. For each site just add the
IP number of 127.0.0.1 and the www.name.whatever of the site that
contains the banners, ads etc. and the site will be avoided. For hand
editing the format for each entry would be:-

127.0.0.1 The.full.site.name Optional.AKA AKA more_aliases
127.0.0.1 NextMachine
127.0.0.1 Anothersite.com

(127.0.0.1 is the address of your Miggy/pc)
Miami should be the same format or near.

As long as nothing is sitting on your http/80 services, most of us
don't, the graphics will be skipped in your browser. Best idea would
be to look in your browser's cache for the site names to avoid. But
remember it is the site that is redirected not only the sites
graphics.

Havn't checked :). Can't see why it won't.
