I actually had the same problem three years ago:
A1200 and two IDE disks sitting in an outside PC desktop, connected with a longer IDE
cable, led out of the A1200.
Then I wanted a CD-ROM.
And a new Turbo (I had the Blizzard 1220/28 MHz with 8MB)
And I wanted a STREAMER (which is a SCREAMER, once you loose data, you will know.....)
This lloked like buying a Tower for the A1200, buying a Blizzard 1230 with SCSI.
Still, no gfx-card.
So I bought a used (2nd hand) A4000 in a tower, with 060,SCSI, CDROM, CyberVision64,
I/O Board and stuff. I haven't used my A1200 since then. The I/O (Multiface III)
allowes me better use of my modem, and of my printer. Allows me to use the 8bit
sampler on the Amiga parallel port, and I have a SCSI ROM, SCSI CD-WR (soon), I got a
2nd hand SONY SCSI DAT streamer (cheap!), have 50MB now, will get soon an SCSI
scanner, have one SCSI HD and two IDE hds.... And a screen resolution of 1024x768
So it really is worth it. You will find 2nd hand Amigas quite cheap these days...
