I've just come across this thread so I may well be repeating some advice.

This is not the first time someone has had trouble with a surf and Genesis 
though I always found it perfectly ok.

You have installed the surf software and got rid of any old classic squirrel
progs. The surf works ok with other perifs? Being a SCSI link I assume it has
to be terminated even if you only want to use the serial link(?) So the surf
does work it just does not work with Genesis?

In Genesis/Modem you selected squirrelserial.device, unit 0, baud 115,200.

Other than suggesting the SCSI is ok but the serial is duff that's me mined
out, but about eight months ago Ian Greenaway offered the following suggestions
to a fellow surf sufferer with a tower, Blizzard 60, and Dynalink 56k.

> squirrelserial.device, unit 0, baud 115200, buffer 16384, rts/cts
> Highspeed mode ON
> DropDTR  ON
> 
> Init: AT&F&D2\r
> Dial prefix: ATDT
> Dial Suffix: \r
> 
> Command delay 20/50th sec
