Hm. Odd, I'm using the V3.0a release and this feature is working fine!

I've defined a default download directory in prefs->hyperlinks and
defined the MIME-type for lha files as Save (no View).  If I click on
such a file it saves it to the dir, if I right-click on any other link
or picture and select Save (OR save-as) it will save it. Which is
exactly how its supposed to work. I also seem to remember this was
working ok in V2.95 but messed up in a V3 prerelease.

The VViewTemp.xx files are what V uses when it wants to *view* the
files. For eg, if you want to view a picture it will create a
VViewtemp file and ask (for eg) multiview to show it. You can, as you
say, directly use this file for other purposes later if you want.

As for the speed of the ram disk versus the hard disk, the speed of
the modem link is far slower than either so there will be no
significant performance gain.  What I think Colin was saying was a
crash during download may trash the harddrive, to which the standard
(and true!) reply is, get PFS...  ;-)
