It needs adjusting in software. Modern monitors have a helluva lot
more hardware adjustments than any C= monitors, but you are stuck with
adjusting the monitor driver.

You might be using EGS with which I am not very familiar. I suggest
using either CGX3 (or 4) or P96. Don't believe the hype about P96
being a lot better--I use both and CGX has some advantages over P96. A
lot of the speed benchmarking is quite bogus. Both CGX and P96 do all
screen adjustment on easy to use test screens. Just know which is the
instant cancel key, because you will lose sync when you adjust beyond
monitor capability. I never got CGX/CV64-3D 800x600 to fit C=1960 at
35kHz and settled for 720x576. I think the monitor needs to be driven
beyond 40kHz to get 800x600 to fit, and I wasn't game to do that.

In your situation I would stick with Spectrum and buy '060 (or G4!).
Check out the CGX site and compare specs of various boards and you
will see the Spectrum is no pig. 1024 x 768 in 16 bit is lovely if
ever you get 17" monitor and Spectrum will drive that easily. I don't
feel the difference between Spectrum and P-IV warrants spending the
money when you could have an '060 intead.

'060 and Spectrum together beats '040, P-IV AND four aces.

You shouldn't be using ANY Amiga screenmodes except for old games.
Icons will be right for as close to 800x600 as you can get.

Get '060 or G4 now. Leave tower and anything else for later.
