To all: this is definitely not a "remote end" problem, as Neil says it is
your own modem stopping you redialling, nothing to do with your ISP.
However Neil, I definitely have my modem set to the UK setting and it
still has the dialling lock. I don't know about the modem you're using
but on mine (SupraExpress 56e PRO) although it's intended to be done
with a PC (the software is supplied and everything), the country setting
CAN actually be changed with just a terminal program (ie from an Amiga or
anything else). You have to look very hard in the (pretty poor) Supra
documentation to find out how to do it.
Trouble is these days everything is designed for Joe Dumb PC User who
couldn't tell a terminal program from a smoked trout. Hence no more nice
printed documentation with full details of all the commands and modem
operation. Instead poor CDROM HTML docs with SOME commands described.
I've actually found myself frequently using the (printed) manual from my
old Supra 288 modem as that was far more comprehensive (and even mentions
Amigas! :)
