Forget about Contact Manager, it's worse than useless.

I get that same message. Newsgroups work fine for me for about 6 weeks, and
then I get "480 authentification required" coming up all the time.
If I repeatedly try to download newsgroups something like 30 times,
eventually I get an occasion when the message doesn't appear and I can
download them. If I want to post a message, I have to wait until I've
successfully managed to download a newsgroup, and then *very* quickly click
the send button, and if I'm lucky I'll actually send it and not get the
480 required message.
I managed to download ng's 1st time yesterday, so maybe I'm back into the 6
week "working properly" cycle. I haven't a clue whether the problem lies
with my isp, the news server, or microdot itself. Anyone know?
Knowing what "480 Authentification required" actually means would be a help.

Err, I'm not sure whether I should say this for fear of being called a
traitor, but I've just bought one. The offer was just too good to pass up.
