It will, if it doesn't mind the syntactically incorrect spaces in it :)
If you're talking about the setting I think you are, it just determines
the domain name automatically appended to a hostname if you supply *just*
the host part of it. So if you do (say) "telnet mail" then it will
actually try to contact mail.copywriter.co.uk. So although it's not
actually *necessary* to set the domain bit, it's *useful* because then you
can omit the domain when contacting hosts on your ISP's domain (or
whatever domain you enter).
