At a guess, I'd say it's because holding down the RMB pretty much
halts anything else that might be running. As you're using the
internal serial port, your CPU is being used for both running voyager
and controlling the serial transfer so it's under pressure. By
stopping the other processes, some power is freed up for use by your
serial port.
