More likely the pathetic CIA chips that perform the job of UARTs than the
CPU that's getting relieved of pressure. I've heard people report that
transfer speed suddenly doubles when a screen blanker starts up, and
very basic Amigas having to reduce the number of screen colours to get the
serial port working properly.
Whatever it is, the RMB trick is an interesting one that I had never heard
before. I'll try it. I bet it will make no difference with serial card
installed.
