Hi Folks,

I've been watching these discussions about RHA and other ISP's with a minor
degree of interest. I gather that membership on this list is pretty heavy
weighted to the UK.

I'm sitting in what the local PR people like to refer to as the 'Heartland
of America.' That's actually the Kansas City area of Kansas and Missouri.
All this discussion makes me realize how lucky I am in the area of
telecommunications. As a guess, I'd say that at least 80% of Americans have
never paid for a metered local phone call. If you live near a city of any
size, there are flat fee ISP's with no long distance charges. My mother who
lives in a small town outside a medium sized city upgraded her phone number
to one in one of the city's exchanges when she got a computer. (BTW, she
just sacked AOL due to many of the same complaints I see on this list. Line
drops, busted downloads, etc.) My sister on the other hand lives so far out
in the sticks that she got a satellite modem after I nearly crashed the
whole exchange sending her a modest sized JPEG.

I don't mind the technical discussions involving the UK ISP's. They often
bring up areas of NC & general stuff (POP, MIME, and so on)that I'm not
very familiar with. However I don't care much for scanning posts that are
simply gripe sessions to discover if there is a nugget of useful
information.

I thing there is a middle ground in this that we can all benefit from.

                                       Best,
