What Mr Rolfe Esq was wanting (if I'm understanding him right) is to have
two separate databases running - one for permanent stuff, one for everyday
usage. Yes, he can have the 'data' dir separate from the 'exe' file, but
two separate 'data' dirs? How without two 'exe' files with their own
'prefs' files?

Indeed, but the 'prefs' file should also be backed up. That only leaves the
'exe' file and a few ancillaries that don't need doing - Insignificant
compared to the 'data' dir, so you might as well do the whole thing.
Each to their own I guess.
