Maybe you need a contact for the Sybase JDBC driver.
It seems the problem is with the driver only recognizing ip addresses and
not recognizing names.
Have you tried using the driver from a standard Java application (not ND)?
I always found our Sybase tech support very good, but maybe that is because
my boss set up a good relationship with them.
I once saw a Sybase support news group for the application server.
If they have one for their database/JDBC driver, maybe they can help.

This is what I have tried. I added the Sybase server name to my
hosts file
and successfully pinged it by name. According to the JConnect docs,
any
device name on the network is usable in the hostname field in the
url. But
it didn't work that way.

Does using standard tcp/ip DNS names work with the
Sybase
JDBC drivers you
are using?
Maybe you can find an acceptable Sybase JDBC driver
which
sits on top of
ct-lib if you prefer to use the names in sql.ini.
I guess one method of last resort would be to write
a perl
script which uses
the name of the datasource as a key and looks up the
ip
address using
sql.ini and then changes the ND file which defines
the
datasource which is
presumably still text in version 5.

Thanks for the reply,
I would like to enter a server name instead
of an IP
address. We
move
servers around sometimes and I would hate to
have to
go through all
of my
projects and enter new IP addresses.

Hi Roger,
What is the definition of:
"handle
the ip addresses
and
ports"?
To do what?
Thx...
