I don't know if any difference between a session unique id and the rest of
the session.
I have not used the external URL feature you are mentioning.
Have you considered using a lower level approach to the problem?
You could extract session id from its hidden field and do anything you like
with it using basic JavaScript/HTML/CGI tools.
