Subject: how does one do this?
hi everyone.
i have not had a functional computer for over two weeks due tos
some bazar formating problems.
in fact, its not really over yet and i am seeking some opinions,
even if off list.
at one time i was running parts of two different editions of dos
at the same time while i think that is past, i still have an odd
question.
i have ru n fdisk seeral times, and while i create new active
primary partitions, when it comes time for fdisk to format and
install dos, it is not doing so. i can go back and find the data
still there from the previous partition.
at last, i just formated the c drive and made it bootable and
copied dos over. not the same as installing it, as i learn each
time i try to run anything. smartdrive or mem for example. I am
told that the program cannot be run because it cannot find all
the files neded, even though these are in the dos directory.
either this, or i get a bad command or file name, even for items
run in the autoexec.bat.
my guess is that with all of the confusion, the drive is having a
nervous breakdown. it is not the fdisk program, i thought theis
might have been curpted, but i made the attemps using both my
real dos disks, and copies all the same edition of dos.
my question is this. if you try to install dos with setup, and
the program finds dos already present, there is an option that
will allow you to upgrade the dos program, which i am guessing
would let me install all of dos withoutusing fdisks formating
process.
can anyone look and tell me what that choice is? speech is not
active at this point. I only know of this from one of the
"reader who had no idea what a computer was" experiences giving
me the data.
