Sam:

Since the release of Nettamer version 1.07 beta, I have been following
the lack of progress on bug fixes to the application(s).

Probably the most stable code Uncle Dave ever posted was version 1.08.

Walter Scott, Bob Buckland and many others have spent countless hours
documenting the bugs in various versions of Nettamer. There was even a
project where everybody sent their bugs to a single person (Tom B...
sorry I forgot your name - Tom builds add-ons for Nettamer) who compiled
a listing.

Uncle Dave had promised to handle those bugs in a timely manner and post
updates to Nettamer. For what ever personal, physical, lack of interest,
or who knows why the reason; that project for bug fixing fell on its
ass. Just as every other attempt to get Uncle Dave to focus on fixing
what he has BEFORE adding new features, has fallen on it collective
asses.

Now new features are the only way to increase the registered users base
for Nettamer.

Number one on the list of needed new features would be address the
"non-dial-up" direct connection like: DSL, cable, wireless LAN -
anything that doesn't use Uncle Dave's proprietary PPP coding to connect
to their ISP.

So if you, Sam, want to start on a project of collecting the various
"one-off" versions of Nettamer - go for it!

Please send me a reminder email when there is a new version of Nettamer
that fixes the bugs & items listed by Tom, Walter, and Bob's various
write ups over the past several years on known bugs that needed fixing.

In the mean time, I certainly won't hold my breath awaiting any new beta
version of Nettamer with all or any of the bugs fixed to be posted to
the Nettamer web page.

If the "off-the-shelf" shareware version won't even work as it should,
then Uncle Dave has to fix the bugs in order to get me to register it.
My "one off" unregistered version of NetMail Pro does not have any of
the features that the registered users have. BTW, as I have already
mentioned previously, I am going to register NetMail Pro because
Uncle Dave has fixed it for me.

Uncle Dave's "one off" versions of Nettamer and NetMail Pro that he sent
to me are not product enhancements. They are only bug fixes to deal
with a certain idiosyncracy of my ISP. The "one-off" versions do not
provide for any other bug fixes. The "off-the-shelf" versions will
work just the same as my "one off" versions with a "normal" ISP. Anyone
who has a problem like mine with an "off-the-shelf-version" could
probably receive from Uncle Dave a free "one off" version if he would
just
write to Uncle Dave and give a description of the problem. The very
same
"one off" version that works for me might also work for anyone else
whose
ISP has the same peculiarity as mine. Perhaps Uncle Dave is curious
enough to want to know if any other ISPs have this same peculiarity.
For
such a reason as this he might be holding off in uploading the "one off"
version as an available download choice. Maybe he plans on putting up a
notice on his web site advising users to download the "one off" version
if they use any of the following ISPs: etc, or to try the "one off"
version if they have problems with smtp with the "standard" version.

Perhaps the "trick fixes" are just fixes for dealing with the
peculiarities of certain protocols running on some ISPs. I don't know
of any "trick fixes" incorporating a general product enhancement
consisting also of bug fixes that could be useful also for everyone
else.

If we can determine that some of the "trick fixes" sent to certain
individuals consist also of a general product enhancement, then we can
find much room for agreement on this issue. If we are talking only
about
a "trick fix" to solve connection problems with a peculiar ISP, then
this
is not a general product enhancemnent that would be useful to people
dealing with a "normal" ISP. For use with a "normal" ISP, the
"off-the-shelf" versions are at least equal to the "one off" versions
that I have.
