The term you are looking for is "camera-ready", not "camera friendly".

If you do not use color separations at all, I suggest printing to PDF.
Ensure that your page size is set correctly, to the exact final page
size.

If you use color full bleeds, check how much you need to overflow.
Most printers will ask for 5mm or 1/8".

If you have color separations, you MUST ensure you are using CYMK, and
not RGB (but scribus/gimp are aware of this). You will get (at least)
4 PDF pages for each real page. You MUST have crop marks, so your PDF
page MUST be bigger than your actual page.

When outputting to PDF, I strongly suggest the PDF/A format.
Alternatively, you will need to ensure that all fonts used are
properly subsetted and embedded, for example.

Of course, no active text, or blinking fonts :-)

If you have PS, you can try (picked up from an old script from 1998,
so may not work today):
ps2pdf -sPAPERSIZE=a4 -dCompatibilityLevel=1.3 -dEmbedAllFonts=true \
 -dAutoFilterColorImages=false -dAutoFilterGrayImages=false
-dColorImageFilter=/FlateEncode \ -dGrayImageFilter=/FlateEncode
-dMonoImageFilter=/FlateEncode main.ps main.pdf

I do not use inkscape/scribus , but look for an option "preflight".
This will cover most of the points above.
