Innumerable manufacturers and distributors of Android based devices are actually in gross violation of the GPL. The Indian vendors are liable and responsible for GPL violations, particularly in the case of the AAKash project. That the GOI is actually encouraging gross copyright violations with impunity, especially with code that empowers it's citizen, is extremely disturbing. Even worse, the IITs are involved in the mess, perhaps unwittingly. The state of the kernel for most android devices is abysmal. This despite the fact that ARM inc and other SOC vendors have put in a massive effort to cleanup and streamline the codebase, which the OEM device users just need to copy almost verbatim. However they use anon chinese peripheral chips and drivers resulting in this mess. Even when the devices are the same, reorganistaion of the physical layout results in io lines being utterly different and makes the stock kernel unuseable. That local vendors are stupid enough to not see bitrot and lockin due to the above is a pointer to their own fly-by-night attitude. _______________________________________________ network mailing list [email protected] http://lists.fosscom.in/listinfo.cgi/network-fosscom.in
