Hello all, Quick overview: I'm a midling FreeBSD and Linux admin, but I'm learning as quickly as I can. I've been interested in Solaris for a long time, and now with the official release of OpenSolaris I'm diving into the UNIX waters- if I can get it to work I'll probably convert my FreeBSD servers to a trick Solaris setup for ZFS and zones.
So I threw the liveCD into a spare server (doesn't everybody have those lying around? Around here, maybe so...) and installed it. The Device Driver utility says I'm missing three drivers, all for the on-board Audio stuff, so no worries there. It assigns me the sfe driver for my built-in network card, and it all looks good, except I can't get any network traffic. I turned off Network Auto-Magic, and configured the card through the Network GUI, static IP. Again, no reported errors, it activates, but no network traffic. Fast forward 5 or 6 hours and Google, and I find these two bug reports: http://bugs.opensolaris.org/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6669863 http://bugs.opensolaris.org/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6655415 I'm getting thousands of messages like this in dmesg | grep sfe: May 17 18:20:26 ifrit sfe: [ID 831844 kern.info] sfe0: auto-negotiation started May 17 18:20:26 ifrit sfe: [ID 831844 kern.info] sfe0: auto-negotiation failed: remote fault I tried creating /kernel/drv/sfe.conf, with the following line: full-duplex=1 speed=100; It complained about an unexpected EOF on reboot, and nothing changed. That's where I'm at now. I can't find anything about the syntax for the sfe.conf file (BTW: man driver.conf, which supposedly has this, is a placeholder, no help). My question is this: what is the correct syntax for this file, to see if this fixes my problem? If this doesn't work, one of the reports mentions downgrading the driver. I'm completely noobish as far as drivers goes- I'm a games programmer by hobby, more user-space stuff- so I have zero idea about how to do this. If there's no quick answer, can somebody save me a few hours on Google and point me in the right direction? I can post anything you ask for- I'm at the limits of my troubleshooting capability today. I was going to spend the day learning to configure zones... Thanks for any help!
