Thanks James! I can think of plenty of great reasons to use those for host names, but not to the exclusion of DNS, at least not on a "desktop" variant. I know this all goes back to the enterprise networking roots of Solaris, which is why I'm looking at it now. I installed from the 2008.05 Live CD, and never got a question about enabling DNS lookups, unless I missed it somewhere in the installer dialog. Just seemed a might unfriendly for a project that aims to "just work" out of the box! Oh well- onward and upwards.
I'm quite impressed with everything else so far, though, I must say. If I can just remember prstat instead of top I think I'll feel a lot better. And this LDAP integration stuff is awesome. Just need to tackle that learning curve! This message posted from opensolaris.org _______________________________________________ networking-discuss mailing list [email protected]
