Man, this always happens... I post and then I figure it out. So the problem with sfe.conf was that I was missing the semicolon in the actual file. That fixed the problem!
However, I found out that DNS wasn't resolving. I could now ping IPs, but not hostnames. To fix this I had to add dns to the hosts line in nsswitch.conf. This seems extremely odd as a default setting! Was there something in my install that switched this, or is OpenSolaris really shipping with DNS name resolution turned off by default? If I hadn't gone through hell getting LDAP auth to work in FreeBSD I wouldn't have even known about this file, and that was just a few months ago. Is NWAM really that good that you can do this?
