I misunderstood. I'd thought you were looking at the OpenSolaris
distribution. It now sounds like you're installing Solaris Express
Community Edition (SXCE), where NWAM is *NOT* the default.
On SXCE, you have to configure most things manually. In particular,
if you're using DHCP, and if your DHCP server declines to offer you a
host name (many, but not all, ISPs fail to do this), then you'll have
to set /etc/nodename to get something other than "unknown."

It wouldn't be for SXCE.

I would have answered "DNS," as that's the name service in use on the
system.
I'm not sure I understand your description above, but this name
service question isn't asking whether you want to set up a DNS
server. It's asking what name service you'd like to use on the system
-- manually configured files ("none"), DNS, NIS, or LDAP.
