It'll save keystrokes and print one line per interface. Other than that, it's not too much different. The intent of the original request in that bug was to make sure that the information provided by the ndd status-reporting "variables" was readily available elsewhere before yanking out the ndd bits, so that we don't unnecessarily annoy support folks and developers (who I think are the main audience).
