I had the same happen. Just type "setup" in a xterm window and go to the
sound configuration selection. Choose one of the Sound Blaster types (Sound
Blaster 16 seems to work for me). I did have to try several I/O settings
prior to getting one that worked. I had the "clicking" sounds from the
speakers too before finding the right setting.
