[newbie] Sound @ Modem

Hello All:

      Operating system seemed to intall fine but I cannot use my sound card 
(Crystal Chips)  or my modem.  I get a device busy message.  I disabled
plug-n-play from the bios before installing.  

      ANY SUGGESTIONS...SNDCONGFIG  DOES NOT CURE THE PROBLEM.
