Now I have a different problem:

I can't get the modem and the soundcard to work at the same time. and
the really puzzling part is that I have one user where the modem works
but the audiodevice can't be opened and one where the sound works but
the modem (though detected) hangs at initialization (query in KPPP
returns nothing here but all the correct answers for the first user).
For the root it is the same as for the second user. I looked at what
documentation I could find and I'm still lost.

How do I find out where the conflict is, and how do I fix it?

I have a G6 180 Pentium with both Win95 and Mandrake 6.0 using the KDE
interface

The modem is a Us Robotics 56K Voice INT V4.7.35

The soundcard an Ensoniq soundscape VIVO PnP

any enlightenment would be greatly appreciated. :-)
