I've installed 8.2 problem free (mostly, more about that in another post) on 3 of my machines, but it refuses to work on a fourth.
This one is a P233, Elitegroup P6LX-A mobo, 288 megs of ram, onboard Adaptec 78xx scsi (controlling both 50 pin wide and 68 pin ultra-wide connectors), 9 gig Seagate 50 pin scsi drive, generic atapi 48X cd-rom, linksys ethernet, Voodoo vid card, sb16 card, and serial modem. The mobo also has a built-in (but unused) Adaptec RAIDport extension slot. As near as I can tell, my atapi cd appears to be detected and the install starts, but then bogs down. I've tried 3 times, and only once -- after 7 hours! -- did the install appear to complete, but then an error message popped up "some packages failed to install", then the initial boot failed, completely, with no recovery possible. I initially suspected a bad cd, but the set worked fine with my other machines. Then possibly a bad cd drive, but I swapped drives and used the suspected bad one to install on another machine and it worked. 8.0 works fine on this machine, and I re-installed and am running it, so the problem is related only to 8.2. Any ideas? eryl
