Been there tried to do that, it's not worth the bother. You can find a good US
Robotics hardware modem on ebay for under $30, then just plug it in and your
troubles will be over. I have gotten a couple old US Robotics 28kbs on ebay for
under $15 each and even at just 28K they seem much faster than my phone line
and my ISP. However it would be nice to be able to use some of my pci modems
with Linux it just does not seem worth the bother for me. Maybe that is just
because I have been so darn busy the last few months that I dont have time enough
to make the pci modems work. maybe for someone with more spare time it may
be worth it.
