Changed the security settings as you suggested: Security / Basic (Page-tab) / security-textfield=High. Anything else was leaved alone as default. No progress, also after restart of Linux.
Yes I am still on the net occasionally by help from another OS not to be mentioned here. I am sure that I miss the correct setting of one or a few parameters, but which one. Mine is "high" and all the other options set to "default". Works like a breeze. Of course you need to know what your ISP supports (PAP / CHAP).
